Day 1 – Barcelona

Back at it again – this time, we’re off to Barcelona. 🇪🇸🇪🇸

It’s half-term break and sure why not whisk yourself away to Barcelona for a week. Our journey started with a 5am departure from Bath. The trip could have been a lot cheaper as the taxi man drove off without Anna with just me in the back and we had to go back to get her! Aw well.

Two trains later and a reasonably easy journey to Gatwick, we found ourselves having breakfast in no time, Anna was even tempted to order a glass of prosecco at 8.30am. After playing our ‘Airport Guess Who’ game which we started when on the way to Greece, we realised that Louis wasn’t as prepared for this trip as he always was…he forgot his sunglasses and our European adapters! Luckily for me, I bought my own pair of sunglasses for my birthday (thanks mum and dad x) and had to get an adapter from boots. Splashing out!

Randomly assigned the emergency exit seats, Anna and I had enough room to do a spot of yoga on the plane with the leg room that we had – perhaps too much leg room as Anna kept slipping horizontal on the leather seats.

After a delay of 1hr on the tarmac, we were eventually off and talked to our neighbour, an American art teacher who was travelling to Barcelona with her sister. Anna entertained her with her American geography, or lack thereof.

We even witnessed a catfight on the plane as one girl was holding everyone up and started shouting at people looking to get past her. Eventually most people just went and sat down again and hid from her until she was gone.

In keeping with tradition, no easy routes or expensive taxi’s for us. We hopped on the local bus to town, found ourselves a local map of the city and even got free coupons to the casino.

Our apartment was in a lovely quiet neighbourhood and perfect for our next 3 nights. Luckily for us, the card machine broke and we didn’t have to pay a €300 deposit. Thank goodness! For those that follow us, you know we love to host absolutely mental parties at night! After sending videos home to the parents and unpacking, we hit the streets to find a tapas bar, as that’s all Anna had asked for all day.

After a delightful meal of mainly eggs, potatoes and sangria, we stopped by our local shop to get some food and drink for the apartment. With thousands of bottles of prosecco, we just had to pick the ‘Bach’ prosecco, as the ‘Anna’ prosecco was a bit more pricy.

We rounded the evening off by sitting on our balcony, planning our next day, sipping on our prosecco and eating our kinder slices for our dessert.

Buenas noches.
