DAY 1 – Dublin

With the planning all done and the unnecessary farewell emotions, from our immediate families to our dog-sitters aunties’ husbands’ next door neighbour, we were on our way and catching a late bus to the Airport in Dublin. This late bus was a result of our families not loving of us that much and opting to sleep instead of taking us to the departure gate.

The thing I envy the most about my girlfriend, is her ability to sleep at any given time, anywhere and on anything. She was asleep before we had even left the bus terminal and I thought I might have a lonely experience in Europe if this was anything to go by. Nonetheless, I cracked open my pink covered kindle I borrowed from my Grandmother (I much prefer the feel and smell of a real paperback, but when travelling, space is hard to come by in a rucksack and so I had to give in to the technological advances of the 21st century). I started reading Dan Brown’s Inferno, which I can highly recommend.

I’ve always been fond of airports and flying, especially on late night transits and have experienced many, but that night in Dublin felt like the next zombie blockbuster set. People were walking with their eyes dead in the head, unable to get their caffeine rush as all the shops and café’s hadn’t opened yet. There was also a severe lack of seating available (due to what I could only imagine, travellers doing the same thing as we would be in a few weeks and sleeping on the hard wooden benches). Finally getting a seat, I continued reading whilst my girlfriend applied her make up to her tired face. I’ve always said that she doesn’t need make up on her face to look pretty and I still stand by that, but maybe travelling just has that effect on girls, or maybe on the eyes of boys. After hours of waiting, people watching and guessing the purpose of their journey, we successfully boarded our Ryanair plane and instantly caught up on some much needed sleep.
