Day 11 – Sifnos

It was a lazy morning for us. It was the first time that the room temperature was perfect all night and the bed so comfortable. The struggle getting out of bed continued for Anna as she got ready, taking so long that the cleaners were already at the door looking to get in by the time we were leaving.
Nonetheless, Anna’s aim today was to continue tanning and get even darker than she already is. Although already golden brown, when she compares herself to the rich brown tan that I am, I assume her confidence goes.

Setting up at Kamares beach, our intended relaxation day began. It didn’t get off to a good start. Since purchasing the beach umbrella in Paros, Louis didn’t even want to look at the thing as it had been so useless, and also so inconvenient when island hopping. Despite this, we brought it with us and after Louis’ few failed attempts at keeping it upright, and occasional laps around the beach chasing it when it flew away, I made a little mound strengthened by stones to keep it in place… I enjoyed giving him a smirk every now and again just to remind him that I’m better than him.

The water at the beach was very shallow as you could walk quite the distance towards the pier. The pier actually served as the port and from time to time, the ferries would come in and create some small waves, just like the old and famous Lisnagelvin swimming pool. Louis still doesn’t know how to spend his time on a Friday afternoon now that it has been closed down.
After a reasonable period of tanning and enough sea water in my lungs, we popped to the shop before heading home to have lunch as we were so close to the beach. We even visited the bakery to get freshly made bread – feeling like locals now visiting all the different shops.

Yesterday on the map, Anna had spotted a pool bar that allows you to use their infinity pool as long as you spend more that €3.50. This was obviously our next destination and it was also reasonably empty, we had the pool to ourselves at a stage too. We sipped on a smoothie and a homemade lemonade and looked out over the coastline.
Without having to worry about sand and waves and beach umbrellas, this was the ultimate relaxation place and we remained here for most of the day. Sifnos seems to have an abundance of French people on the island. Very rarely have we heard the Greek language, everyone seems to be speaking in French. There must be a cheap boat here from France or something.

It was time for more spaghetti tonight, although we did have it with carbonara sauce instead of pesto, and even had some bruschetta for a starter. I must say, it was rather delicious. Whilst Anna cooked, I had the maps out on the bed and planned our tour of Sifnos tomorrow. I also had a great FaceTime with Jerome Knowles (one of the biggest fans of the blog) to catch up on all the insider gossip of course.
It was a reasonably relaxing and possibly boring day for the adventures of Anna and Louis, but as Anna says – “My tan is the priority”.
