Day 15

We both felt bitter sweet this morning. It was the last day of our honeymoon but we were excited to get home and eventually cool down. We both enjoyed a lie in and admired the sea front views for one last time.

After packing our bags and tidying the apartment, we headed into the harbour for some breakfast. We decided to go back to the piano bar as it had good reviews for breakfast and it was the closest. We didn’t want to be dripping in sweat as all our clothes were packed away and we would be wearing the same clothes traveling home. We both had Eggs Benedict minus the bacon. An eggcellent start to our last day.

We still had a Bacardi breezer and a few Radler left in the fridge back in the apartment, so after breakfast we had these while waiting for the taxi to pick us up.

The journey was very stress free. The taxi was right on time and it was only 15 minutes to Chania airport. When we arrived at the airport it was empty! We checked in and went through security in under 5 minutes. No queues and no annoying families arguing.

The plane was equally as empty. It was very kind of Louis to organise a private jet to take us back from our honeymoon. The air hostess asked us to move towards the front of the plan to even out the weight. She clearly is a fan of our blog and knows how much we have ate and drank for the past 2 weeks.

Just before take off, an English man came running on the plane with his arm covered in blood. He seemed a bit wild and told us that he couldn’t find his reference number for the test he booked on day 2 of his return, so he just used the reference number of the guy behind him. We asked him what happened his arm and he said he fell and caught it on his way running to the gate. This was probably down to the fact he was too late to check his bag into the hold and he couldn’t bring the bottle of raki and honey which he had bought for his parents. Instead of them going to waste, he just downed them both. No presents for his parents this time.

Louis started to have withdrawal symptoms from his lists so he spent most of the flight re-organising these. After a chocolate bar and a cup of tea, I fell asleep and woke up in the UK. That journey flew in!

After collecting our luggage, we had to wait 2 hours for our check in desk to update. We popped into marks and sparks for some nibbles and sat on the floor of the airport for what seemed forever. Eventually we could check in and go through fast pass security.

In the departure lounge, we went straight to spoons for some dinner. We had already preordered this while we were waiting so it was ready for us when we arrived. I had a pizza, Louis had a veggie burger and we shared a bottle of wine. Why not eh?

In no time at all, we were called to the gate and boarded the tiny plane to Derry. Now for some exciting news… are you ready for this? I finished my very first adult book. It had over 300 pages (I know) and wait for it….not 1 picture. I even read the epilogue. Fair play to me. This will go down in history. A very proud moment.

Louis’ mum & my new mum in law (awwwww) picked us up from the airport. It’s so nice to fly into Derry instead of Dublin for a change. As soon as I got back into the house, I enjoyed a pint of milk. There is really nothing better than that first sip of Irish milk after being on holidays.

It really was the best holiday ever. It was so nice to be away after the multiple lockdowns over the past 2 years. Thank you to everyone that read our blog! I hope we didn’t bore you all to death. Love Mr & Mrs Fields xo
