Our train was delayed not 110 minutes, but 4 hours. I woke up at 7.40am in distress. We should should have been in Krakow by now after getting our connecting train at 3am. At first, I thought we missed our connecting train, but when I used my maps, I found out that we were only heading towards katowice now, where we change trains.
Due to this setback, we had to reserve train seats onto Krakow and meant we would have to wait unto 11.30am. We took this time to get breakfast, but the only thing that was open was a Subway – such a healthy breakfast.
On the platform waiting for the train, I spotted my flatmate from first year on another platform. We were both in the same halls until she left university but she didn’t see me. I thought it was pretty funny that we were both here at this random station in the middle of Poland. My girlfriend was also lying on the floor and the binman told her to get off the floor for some reason. It was more comfortable than the stupid modernistic seats.
For the first time in a while, we got the train and it wasn’t stressful at all. It was peaceful, comfortable and on time! I was even in a good mood when having to queue for our tickets to Munich in 3 days.
The hostel was full of boys – must have been a ‘lads’ holiday – and the people that worked there were absolute idiots. They hadn’t a clue about anything and didn’t really tell us anything either. Instead of hanging around this place, we went for lunch to a restaurant where the waitresses looked like they were all going out – small black dresses, heels and a clutch bag for their money. We continued our tradition of eating local foods, this time with Perigoli.
We really needed to do some washing so we went back to the hostel and did 2 washes. Everyone else was using the dying racks so we had to hang them in our room, showing great teamwork to get them on top of the curtain poll. When they were all hung up, we went to book our Auschwtiz tour for tomorrow.
When we were out and touring the sites of Krakow, we noticed a long queue for a really nice looking building. On further inspection, it was a restaurant and a massive one at that. It must be good if everyone was queuing for it so we jumped on the back and waited to get seated. Usually we would get a starter to share because food portions were usually pretty small, but this time we didn’t and were glad! The portions were literally massive – there was no plate to be seen through the food and it was piled up with food and more food. The beer also only came in 1ltr glasses or higher. It must have been a restaurant for giants or something.
Having finished our meal as much as we could, we left and walked home another way to see more sights. There was a street performer playing Ave Maria and I sang along, too loud for my girlfriends liking apparently. We diverted into a shop to get lunch for tomorrow and we also noticed a great deal on tonic water. We took it home with us and finally finished the remainder of the Gin we bought in Naples.
