Day 46 – Nice

We wanted to get up early to go to Cannes and Monte Carlo today, but I felt pretty sick and just didn’t want to do anything. It always happens when I relax or rest during holiday time – up to now it has been stressful and hectic.
Our interrail passes ended today but the train and bus tickets were so cheap that it wasn’t a big deal. After getting a shower, I sat down to have breakfast, only that I couldn’t eat it because my girlfriend had bought us butter milk – it just tasted like it was out of date by 2 weeks. I then had to eat dry and plain cornflakes, which was just as bad.
We lay about even more, still planning to go to Cannes… maybe after lunch. Time kept passing and there was no point in going for only an hour or so so we decided to go to our stone beach again and chill there. The water was very choppy and I wasn’t that keen to go swimming today. My girlfriend also followed all the locals by sunbathing topless, and when you looked around, you would almost think that it was a nudist beach.
Usually people hate when their parents put on suncream for you but a boy in front of us was barking orders at his mum – factor 20 on his face and shoulders but factor 10 on his arms and some other factor on his back. He knew his stuff. I hardly wear suncream and we would be returning home with a pretty full bottle again. We can use it next time sure!
We were both struggling with the heat and day in general and walked home, showered and returned into the old city of Nice to have a look around. We had ice cream and watched boys in rollerblades do an obstacle course pretty impressively, a trumpet player who asked passers by where they were from, before playing their national anthem, and finding out that David Guetta was playing at a massive concert tomorrow night in the main square. Ridiculously overpriced though!
Before going home, we walked up to the castle, following steps and paths that led continuously upwards. We were wrecked by the time we got up and rested at a large waterfall, where we got lots of pictures and also soaked from the spray of water. The place was closing and we were kicked out by a boy in a moped, it was so dark though that he probably missed a lot of people.
The yachts and boats were all lit up at the marina when we walked home and could see all the rich families getting served drinks by their butlers and servants. That would be the life alright. We just needed to go get another carton of milk for the morning and that would be us ready for bed. A rather uneventful day with little drama, but I suppose this is what Nice was for – a peaceful holiday and stress free time at the end of our travels.
